Lorrel’s Priorities

Governments have a responsibility to build trust. What does trust mean to me? It means leaders who engage with community members, practice good governance, use sound judgment when making decisions, and prioritize fiscal responsibility that leads to financial stability for Piedmont.

I envision Piedmont as a welcoming community that supports all of our residents, from the young family with elementary school kids to the retired couple looking to maximize their golden years.

I will continue the work of Council members who have come before me as a good steward of the city. Learn more about my vision for Piedmont below.

Community Engagement

I support robust community engagement in Piedmont that:

  • provides numerous, diverse avenues for public conversation and input;

  • builds on current systems of engagement; and

  • partners with community organizations and groups.

Public Safety

I support a community safety focus in Piedmont that is well-funded and:

  • prioritizes maintaining fully staffed Police and Fire Departments;

  • strategically assesses and maintains the city’s street lights, crosswalks, and buildings; and

  • prepares and communicates plans for home fire safety, hazard mitigation, and disaster relief to our community members.

Continued Excellence

Housing

I support housing policy in Piedmont that:

  • includes robust communication with residents using diverse methods of outreach and engagement;

  • honors state law requirements while remaining fiscally responsible; and

  • enables Piedmont to be a leader in housing policy while studying solutions implemented in similar small communities throughout California

Schools

PUSD works hard to provide an excellent education for students; I support city programs and priorities that enhance our school district by:

  • continuing to provide high quality, inclusive before- and after-school care (Schoolmates), and school break & summer camp offerings through the City of Piedmont Recreation Department;

  • coordinating with PUSD in planning aquatics programs that meet the needs of students as one of the diverse resident groups using our community pool; and

  • protecting the safety of PUSD students and staff through the Safer Streets program, crossing guard coverage, and emergency response preparedness.

Climate Action

I support climate action in Piedmont that:

  • provides incentives such as rebates for residents to make the shift to green appliances, and electrification of homes;

  • continues to consider climate impact in all city decisions; and

  • focuses on communication with residents to make it easier for them to take advantage of incentives offered by private companies and public programs.
